P.S.II HD 5870 = GTX 570 ... why do you want to swap for 570?
I was lately thinking about changing my 5870 ... but only for HD 6970 or GTX 580 to gain some fps.

The Peter cooler is crazy.. i thought it was impossible to mount 2 big fans on a gfx

i know that 5870 is the fastest single card gpu but it is bugging me ATI with 120hz screen. isnt good :S
Because it downclocks itself to 167/300 in idle. so my 120 hz screen can't handle it,
+ the cooler gets 50% on startup, so i have to adjust in msi afterburner
ORE > i could bios flash my card and change the settings. but i had enough trouble with this card..
i'd rather buy a nvidia and not have to be worried for those problems.

Mine runs @ 21% ... and i have downclocked speed by flashing BIOS and setting the standard speeds to 800/1250 MHz :D
I could send you my BIOS if you want.
157/300 in 2D is OK, that`s a nice option (less heat, not much noise) - mine does that too.
I have also 120Hz monitor and no problems with 5870.
Which drivers do you use? Mine are 10.2, the new ones are kinda shitty.
P.S. Don`t use MSI Afterburner (uninstall it) ... it fu*ks with the clocks and makes a lot of troubles.

150/300 is not ok in 2D, because my screens "flickers"
(updating screen) so it gets a bump like the screen is tossed up and down from ceeling. very innoying!
i need to have 300/300 minimum in my settings to keep my 120hz

Hi, nowadays idle @ 38 (21% fan speed - 890rpm) - 2D voltage 0.95, but during winter 33 :)
In games with 1.163 voltage about 75 with 100% load.
And i`m using 10.2 because with 10.4 and later drivers in 2D mode the card was, from time to time, "jumping" on 850/1200. With 10.2 i have 157/300 all the time in 2D - that`s fine for me.
So you won`t like my BIOS as it use the 2D 157/300 speed :(

#7 Ehh, youre saying 5870 equals 570 in performance? I hope not, because thats BS. 5870 is nowhere near the performance of 570.
570 GTX is also faster than 6970 up to 1920x1200. Especially after OC. 570 OCs higher. So saying you don't want to upgrade to 570, but 6970 is fine, is a little strange since you're running 1080p -.-
Also; 570 OCed > 480 OCed.
570 is better in shader intensive games like BFBC2, DiRT2 etc

You just wrote nowhere near the 570....thats if there was a constant 50fps difference... :D i dont see the 25 fps difference as nowhere near!

Whatever dude. It's pointless to discuss this with someone who have 5870 and trying to protect it.
DiRT2 is like 30-45 fps difference. Whats your point.. 8 fps? The percentage is what you should be comparing. 8 fps is a pretty big difference when we are in the already low fps zone.
Try firing up BFBC2 1080p all maxed and you would see the 5870 going down and the 570 still deliver around 100 fps.
The 570 can even deliver that fps with 32xCSAA

8fps ... +-59 fps vs. +-66 fps in BF BC 2 makes no difference at all.
And you could probably find some games where 5870 gets more fps than GTX 570 (Crysis, F1 2010), so you cannot say that "5870 is nowhere near the performance of 570."
I`m not a 5870 fanboy (i`m aware of gpu`s progress) ... GTX 580 is on my mind, but first i need to find out which one is the most silent: DirectCU II, Twnin Frozr II, Phantom or reference with Alpenfohn Peter + Noctua NF-S12B FLX :) @ 600rpm.
P.S.
@ las - is it possible to have totally passive WC on gpu (which will be stressed a lot) with acceptable temperatures? Or maybe with fans running @ 400-500rpm - isn`t it too low speed?
Which fans - how many rpm - have you installed on radiator to chill gfx`s?
