Hi, welcome to Denmark and HardwareOnline.
It depends on where you live and what equipment you already have. Of course you need a wired connection from the ISP provided router/modem to your PC. And try to avoid having multiple routers on your network before the signal reaches your PC.
If your ISP provided "box on the wall" has a router function in it, and you're satisfied with the functionality it provides, there's no need to add your own router as well.
If you want to add your own router, and the box on the wall also contains a router function, put it in bridge mode, disabling the router function, so your own router takes care of it. You'll want to have as few devices as possible on your connection, to make sure the signal reaches your PC as fast as possible.
Depending on your area you probably won't notice a difference in latency, and a lot of games are hosted on servers outside of Denmark anyway, so your ping might (kinda) suck regardless.
