Hi everyone.
My computer is for some reason starting to perform worse than it used to do.
It started with instability, and random crashes.
The sound would freeze and the screen would turn black, then the computer would restart.
I tried to find out why it crashed, but all i got was some Kernel ID 41, Event ID 3 or something like that. I tried google, but couldn't really find an answer
I did also notice poor performance.
In World of Warcraft I usually have at least 60 fps, and more often than not into the 100.
Now it would range from 40-70, and feel like it's stuttering even on my G-sync monitor.
I thought the CPU was getting unstable, so I did the following:
Dial the CPU overclock from 4.5 GHz down to 4.2, and then format the entire computer, to have a fresh install.
I also backed my GPU overclock back a bit.
It didn't really help. Sometimes World of Warcraft runs fine with 80-110 fps, but then it suddenly gets back to the poor performance of 40-70 fps and very stuttering feel.
I tried Battlefield 4 also, It also has lower fps than before. I used to run 60+ fps, but now it hardly breaks 60, it also feels unresponsive, like there is more input lag than before (V-sync is off).
I've also checked my temperatures. The CPU doesn't break 55 degrees when it's running at 4.2 GHz, and the GPU's are never above 55.
I'm out of ideas, anyone got a clue ?
Anden post:
Having returned everything to stock, it seems to have helped the problem.
Battlefield 4, still seems lower. With Medium settings and no AA (HBAO on) i get 60-90 fps with very few dips below 60 (it's in 2560x1440 though).
I can only only disable SLI, I can't really remove the graphics cards because of my watercooling, I would have too disassemble the loop, and I currently don't have extra tube and liquid lying around.
Just did a reboot of the computer, and it showed no picture. I've tried this before, and I had to reboot the computer 5-6 times before I got a picture on the screen.
Is it the PSU or the GPU's ?
I have updated the thread title, to specify my problem.
I was doing some school related work, and listening to music.
Out of nowhere the sound went into a loop, and hardly anything was responding.
I tried to shut the computer down via windows, but that didn't work, the sound was still looping, and it would not shut down.
So i pressed the power button on the case, and it shut down. Then I booted it again, only to get nothing on the screen.
I tried the restart button on the case, still no picture. I tried the power button, still no picture.
I tried this 5 times or something, with nothing on the screen. Then i took out my laptop disconnected one screen from the desktop (to hook it up to the laptop), booted the desktop again, and now I got a picture on the screen.
This is obviously not optimal. But I have no clue why this is happening. Everything is running stock now, and it's a fresh installation of windows with updated drivers, and the newest BIOS version.
Anyone have any idea which component is failing?
The specs again:
I5-2500K STOCK
2x GTX 670 in SLI (2 GB) STOCK
1 x 180 GB intel SSD
1 x 250 GB Samsung SSD
1 x 1 TB Samsung HDD
16 GB corsair ram at 1600 MHz
Seasonic 760 watt power supply (it's 80+ platinum)
Windows 8.1
It's all watercooled.
